Every person faces stress on a daily basis. Sometimes, that stress becomes seemingly overwhelming. In a tragic set of choices, Katie Meyer, a goalie on Stanford University’s Women’s Soccer team, took her own life when confronting her own acute stress. In response, her parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the university, blaming them for Katie’s suicide. This story leads to an interesting question: when facing acute stress, where do we place responsibility for positive outcomes?
